Trading Posts and Brian Howard

One of the disadvantages of running a supposedly non-partisan website is the guilt that comes with covering the club one supports rather than Burnley, Bradford or Bury. Notwithstanding the odd detailed appraisal (witness Lloyd’s recent mammoth take on Plymouth Argyle’s current travails), our opportunities to write about one’s own favourites have often been restricted to guest posts elsewhere.

Hence, I gratefully accepted a kind invitation from Ian Wilkinson (aka “Wilky”) of the imperious Barnsley website and podcast provider On the Ponty End to pen a few thoughts on the career of Brian Howard, once one of the Championship’s key talents; now struggling to hold down a starting place at Reading. The results can be found at this link.

But aside from an appraisal of the Royals’ somewhat prosaic striking options carried out for The Seventy Two, our involvement at trading posts has mainly involved imported goods.

So as we are nearing the end of 2010, I thought I would provide a virtual thumbs up again to the range of super outside contributions we have received this year. Aside from the ever insightful Ben Woolhead of Black & White & Read All Over and Mike Baker of the sadly defunct SmogBlog, both of whom are now fully fledged Unfortunates, we have been thankful to a range of other scribes.

These have included David Bevan of the aforementioned The Seventy Two who penned his thoughts on Leicester City under Paulo Sousa (now a distant memory), a witty take on the behemoth that is Sky Sports from Russell George, a first Scottish-tinted contribution from Niall Slater and a typically erudite assessment of exciting Watford striker Marvin Sordell from Matt Rowson of BHaPPY. Hearty thanks to one and all.

If you are interested in providing a guest post to The Two Unfortunates, especially concerning a club that you feel we have covered less than we should have done in our 18 months of existence, please do get in touch.
