Tribute: The Greatest Penalty in the World

“I can categorically tell you now. In a situation like this, that is not required. That is not required. I mean, it’s just such a woeful penalty.” So says Mark Bright in his co-commentary on Yann Kermorgant’s shocker, which is categorically at the top of BBC Sport’s most popular videos.

Lanterne Rouge, who in a happy coincidence for us profiled the Breton on these pages early last month, suggested at the time that Nigel Pearson may have been “diddled” by a YouTube video of his Greatest Hits. A month or so later, an anonymous comment in support of Kermogant was left on the post after the striker hit a corker against Middlesbrough, which prompted me to joke that it might have been the player himself because, after all, who else would give a shite and remember LR’s swipe?

A couple of weeks on, and the pendulum has well and truly swung. Posted earlier today, one Foxes supporter has created a tribute to Kermorgant’s legend in the form of a satirical skit. It’s surely set to become a minor YouTube Classic. Earphones required if you’re at work.
