It would be difficult to better Dudley Campbell’s contribution to the last third of Blackpool’s season. His impact on the Seasiders’ rise was quite considerable. Why he seems to save his best form for loan spells, though, is open to question. A permanent move will no doubt materialise in the summer, so this theory will be put to the test next season.
Honourable mentions to: Gabriel Tamas, who shored up a very leaky WBA defence; Billy Sharp, whose parent club underachieved whilst their Blades-supporting striker came close to firing Doncaster in to the Play-Offs; Andy Griffin, who like Tamas made a real difference to a struggling back four; and Tom Cleverley, Watford’s Player of the Season in his first full year in professional football. Stephen Dobbie, the man in possession of perhaps the most Scottish-sounding surname in history, gets a nod too.
