Insignificant though this category may be, it usually provokes as much debate as any and this year, our panellists have again betrayed a liking for tradition in their choices. Hence, the traditional colours and round(ish) neckline sported by Preston North End at home and the simple contrast between the yellow and black of Watford both attracted admirers. Equally, Scunthorpe United may have displayed a little more blue on their kit than is traditional and claret shorts would have made it even better, but this was still classic Irons with a welcome return to stripes after several experimental years without.

In the progressive camp, however, Derby County’s trio of Kappa shirts brought a distinct continental feel to the Championship. Their third kit beautifully referenced Boca Juniors’ iconic home uniform and the prominence of the sponsor just below the collar on all three manifestations echoed Serie A shirts from the late 90s and early 2000s. The Rams succeed their bitter rivals in winning this category.
