TTU Awards 2011-12: Best Kit

Last year [1], the comments section in this category combusted at the suggestion that QPR’s Celtic aping green and white away kit was the best of the 144 or so outfits on offer to choose from. A day later, we were engulfed in yet more hot water when citing ignorance of tradition as a reason to dislike Southampton’s Peruvian impression [2].

So it might seem hypocritical to honour Erreà: the manufacturers and designers of Cheltenham Town’s all ruby affair. This link [3] mentions that the shade chosen constitutes a return to the club’s roots so without investigating further, we’ll let them off the hook even if the Gloucestershire team have become known for sporting red and white stripes in their recent history. The colour recalls another sea change in design from a few years’ ago - the Arsenal marketing department’s brainwave to cash in on a new shade of redcurrant merchandise in 2005-6 - and it’s equally as toothsome as well as falling into line with the latest fashion trend [4].

Honourable mentions to Carlisle United’s yellow for the road and Huddersfield Town’s ever smart uniform that lit up Wembley a week ago.

2010-11 winner: QPR (away)

2009-10 winner: West Bromwich Albion (home) [5]
