Regular readers of our website will know we have a serious penchant for nostalgia and the first of our 3 recommended reads for this week is a corker. Hull City blog Amber Nectar looks back 41 years to a testimonial game for Chris Chilton that saw former Tigers Don Revie take his high flying Leeds United to Boothferry Park. I cough just thinking about the no doubt smoky atmosphere in the gentlemen only ‘Dinner Jacket Boxing Show’.

We’ve run the risk of upsetting a few Leeds fans in recent weeks, first by daring to suggest ^[3] that Manchester United don’t care that much about them and then by casting doubt over Neil Warnock’s personnel policies ^[4]; but the week that saw Ken Bates finally step down from his position of malign influence at Elland Road needs to be cheered and much credit should be afforded to the Scratching Shed website, implacably opposed to the evil Smurf from the off. Their review of 2012 speaks of much turbulence.

The level of retweets this garnered when we publicized it on twitter earlier shows the power of the #jackarmy hashtag. One of our number was present at the Mad Stad as the Swans drew with Reading on Boxing Day and the analysis provided by Nebraska based Jake Meador is spot on. Nor is it the only gem available through Jonathan Fadugba’s utterly excellent Just Football site – an analysis of 10 up and coming players to watch in the French League ^[6] also caught our eye.
