Days to go

With mere days to go until the league’s opener at the Riverside on Friday, the usual previews have started to appear. In an effort to hit the shelves early, FourFourTwo has churned out its usual tripe with much of the information already dated (Newcastle to win the league?). Those seeking a quick guide and prediction to disagree with should instead refer to The Times’ who have today offered some more realistic prognoses, or the excellent bhappy’s rundown (albeit from a single club’s perpective).

Both The Observer and The Sunday Telegraph carried double-page spreads on the Championship yesterday, and the former’s Jamie Jackson stood out with pieces on Derby’s steady return to normality as well as a look at the new generation of managers that is developing quite nicely in our league. It is surely only a matter of months before another Roberto Martinez or two emerge from the pack.

As for the tele, another ad has joined the Championship party alongside the Beeb’s new trailer. Starring Paul Whitehouse, Aviva have decided to promote their insurance beyond East Anglia by mockabrating my beloved team. As my season-ticket holder dad would say: there’s no such thing as bad publicity me Janner.
