A fortnight ago, Gavin Barber kicked off The Seventy Two’s ambitious new One Match That Defines My Club series with a look back at Ipswich Town’s incredible play-off semi-final second leg win over Bolton Wanderers. It was a series that was meant to run every Monday morning for 77 weeks in a row but the thoughts of everyone in football were elsewhere this time last week. Over the past weekend, we remembered Gary Speed with minutes of applause up and down the country. The series continues with Yeovil Town supporter Ben Barrett. One match that defines my club - #2: Yeovil Town
My favourite play-off memory: Yeovil Town
Our final favourite play-off memory comes from Yeovil fan Ben Barrett. He could only really pick one night… There are a few teams that have seen the end of season play-offs quite regularly, thus giving their fans lots of memories to choose from. But, being a Yeovil Town fan means we have just one Play-Off season, 2006/07, before that we found simply winning the leagues was a far more effective way of getting promoted. Since the year 2000, Yeovil have been promoted twice, secured the FA Trophy and even got to a play-off final which nearly saw them play in the second tier of English football for the first time. To narrow the most successful era in the club’s history down to just five players was difficult enough, but with the club having turned over a whole new squad virtually every summer, there is plenty to choose from. Loan players more than played their part….
Ton up for Skivo as Yeovil Town march on
Terry Skiverton celebrates 100 competitive games in charge of Yeovil Town today. With that milestone, Skivo also completes a week and two years in the manager’s office at Huish Park. Yeovil supporter Ben Barrett pays tribute to a tremendous servant of a club arguably punching above their weight alongside some famous names in League One. Mr Yeovil stepped into the role in February 2009 and has successfully masterminded two relegation scraps. Skivo is in the middle of trying to successfully negotiate a third, despite many other managers falling by the wayside on an almost weekly basis. The number of sackings…
