TTU 2010/11: Season Preview: Championship (Part One)

Our week of 2010-11 previews starts here and, rather than sound off with our own views once again, we decided this year to canvass the opinion of fans of all the league clubs. Thankfully, we have been overwhelmed with a warm hearted response and no little wit. The Championship previews appear today in two parts, with Leagues 1 and 2 to follow later in the week. Here goes and needless to say, the opinions are those of the contributors and not necessarily The Two Unfortunates:BarnsleyHeadline of the SummerLosing top goal scorer Daniel Bogdanović to our mortal enemies from S2, Sheffield…

With most minds occupied elsewhere, we nevertheless decided to wait for the hubbub of Orange Saturday to calm down and tarry until now to assess the 24 squads who made-up the 2009-10 Championship season. The Thursday Preview: Blackpool Vs Cardiff

Saturday marks the end of a 288 day marathon for Blackpool and Cardiff as both teams head to Greater London for a match that recalls the corresponding Play-Off Final of two years ago between the Cities of Bristol and Hull. Extending the Franchise

The top flight of English football has brought to mind uncanny parallels with the upper echelons of UK Politics in recent days. A conservative old guard are back on top of the heap, with bluer than blue Chelsea and the Cheshire stockbroker belt of Manchester United once again ruling the roost. Behind, the middle class Islington lefties of Arsenal and Old Labour, unionist Liverpool are having to play second fiddle, with a new force, perhaps all style and no substance represented by newcomers elbowing their way in: Spurs and Man City. But another parallel can be drawn with our own division….

The Championship: Winners and Losers

The end of the season is a time to reflect on the nine months just gone. As we approach the season’s finale, it is time to consider: Who has overachieved, and who has flattered to deliver? Who has surprised us and who has underwhelmed us? Here we take a look at five clubs who have sparkled this year, and five more whose once bright lights have somewhat dimmed.Defying the OddsPrior to the start of the season, many predicted that Newcastle might follow in the infamous footsteps of Leeds United and implode spectacularly. Nine months later, boss Chris Hughton can look…
